uv lights and your heating, ventalation, and cooling systems

uv lights have become a very popular option for property owners to purify the air in their homes. the uv-c rays that are created by the luminous bulb in these systems are able to prevent the growth and reproduction of microorganisms by changing their dna. this is helpful because many of the microorganisms floating around in your house are bacteria, viruses, molds, and many more harmful particles that make us ill. by killing off these microorganisms, uv lights improve the quality of air that we breathe in everyday. but how is one little luminous able to change the air in the entire house?

where will it be implemented?

when a uv luminous is implemented, it is usually put in at either the supply or return ends of the air ducts at the heating. the supply end sends air back into the house, and the return vent is taking air back into the heating to be heated. whichever place it is implemented, it will be able to perform the same way.

what’s wrong with my air filter?

every central air heating should have an air filter. the standard air filter is only able to capture a percentage of the particles that are in the air we breathe. they are made of a material that has thousands of tiny holes that many of the harmful microorganisms can escape through and continue to plague the air you breathe. even when it does capture a microorganism, it does nothing to kill it.

how does it maintaning all of the air?

the uv luminous will come in contact with all of the air in the house. as the return vent draws air into the heating, it will pass through the uv luminous. once the air has been sterilized it will be sent through the supply vents that lead all over the house. over a short amount of time, all of the air in your house will have circulated through the heating, and will therefore be sterilized.

this technology is so effective, that is has been used in hospitals for years. it is used not only to purify the air and prevent spread of sickness; it is also used to maintaning medical system that is used in surgery. you can have that same power in your house, and it will dramatically improve your interhome air quality.

go green

go green

what is go green?

the go green initiative refers to a two part strategy that’s floating around the latest information and internet.  the idea is to link saving coin with saving the environment.  for years pundits have been stating that environmentalism does not make good business sense.  this initiative sets out to help show people how this is wrong and to help find the happy middle between these two some times differing goals.

this can be as easy as turning off lights your not using to save coin.  yes your getting a benefit as your electric bill is reduced, but so is the environment.  the energy you would have other wised used can now be redirected else where which helps the hydro, solar, and wind power plants handle more of the day to day load.

your local correction technician

as a business your local correction technician has taken an active interest in this project and have set out to help.  first, if your in the market for a new heating or cooling system we have been keeping all of our estimators and technicians up to speed on technologies like variable heating system that help reduce your energy cost along with keeping up to date on energy star compliant system and how to help you calculate your long term savings and return on investment.

in addition, we have been posting tips on this and other web sites, including sponsoring a go green website that one of our employees wanted to build.  we see a value to the public at grand in this and wish to support it where ever we can.

we are also working hard to practice what we preach.  starting several years ago your local correction technician began changing out luminous bulbs, switching to high efficiency targeted heating and cooling units in our offices, changing out our fleet to much higher gas effective vehicles, and many more.  we are even doing research into the possibility of using propane or electric in our vehicles.  for us, this made great business sense, as any upfront cost is quickly paid for by what we saved.  in addition, this has been an initiative that many in our business have taken personal pride in and in making suggestions on how we can do more.

more go green resources

you can find a lot by simply googling the “go green” term.  however, here are some other resources we found helpful.

world watch – a lot of information to dig through on this site and some topics do get a bit extreme.  still worth reading and making your own decisions.  of note would be there tips section which has some very useful items.

dsire – database of state incentives.  everything from green permit programs to utility business programs.  if your looking for a way to take the edge off an upfront investment in green technology, this is a great place to start.  just click your state.  in illinois, indiana, and wisconsin there are some great state wide programs.  the city of local region even has some of it’s own.  plus there resources page has links to many other great sites.

24hr heating and cooling – while a web site related more to the heating, ventalation, and cooling industry, air quality, and how heating, ventalation, and cooling system works.  they do have some good content regarding tax credits and a section for go green and coin saving.

fshac resource center – we plan on posting more and more information to help.  while our main business web site will remain focused on doing business.  the your local correction technician resource center will be a great place to go to find more information about go green and many other topics.

as always, we appreciate your comments and thoughts so leave us a message in our comments section!
